We are increasingly seeing our customers choosing to integrate hoods into stone countertops.

Therefore, we asked our cooperation partner and expert - Jānis Krūmiņš, representative of the "ELEMENTI" salon , to tell us more about the current trends and the advantages of integrated hoods.

What are the benefits for the user when choosing a hood integrated into the worktop?

There are several advantages:

  • Freedom of action at the stove , because you won't be bothered by the traditional hood design or its corners, which you might bump your head against. You won't have to stand at the stove in an uncomfortable, bent position. It won't limit visibility in the room. During cooking, steam and heat don't rise up from the stove top, which quite often makes it difficult to monitor the cooking process. People who wear glasses won't have problems with their glasses fogging up either.

  • Greater possibilities in kitchen planning , because when installing a hood integrated into the worktop, for example, in a room with a sloping ceiling, the hob can be located by the window. By building it into a kitchen island, the space remains clear, without unnecessary ceiling structures. Even by integrating the hood into the worktop on the wall, you gain free space in the upper cabinets, or even vice versa, you can leave an open wall. Built-in hoods are also very practical in small kitchens.

  • Low noise level , because the hood is not in your hearing zone, i.e. at head height. Another advantage is that when built directly into the worktop, you can install silencers offered by manufacturers in the lower cabinets.

  • Easy cleaning that doesn't require extra time and effort. For example, the Bora Basis hob with integrated extractor hood needs to be washed, and only in the dishwasher, with only two parts - the decorative mesh and the grease filter. Here we can say that it doesn't get any simpler.

  • The performance and results are much higher than with traditional hoods. The pot or the source of the steam is located exactly next to the hood integrated into the worktop. This guarantees the most effective extraction of steam and aromas, which provides us with comfort and protects our space in the long term.

  • What are the types of hoods designed to be integrated into a kitchen countertop?

  • Integrated into the induction or ceramic hob itself

  • Integrated into the worktop, which are installed between modular hobs or between, for example, 60/70 cm wide surfaces, but in such a situation it is recommended to integrate even two hoods into the worktop, each on its own side.

  • DownDraft extractor hoods slide out from the tabletop , available in various sizes, colors and designs.

Can these hoods be combined with gas hobs?

Any gas hob can be used with a DownDraft or pull-out hood. A gas hob with an integrated hood is not available, but there are a number of modules, including gas, that can be installed with a hood integrated into the kitchen worktop.

Modules offered by manufacturers:

  • Induction and induction WOK surfaces

  • Ceramic surfaces

  • Gas surfaces - WOK and conventional

  • Steam boilers

  • Grills

  • Teppan Yaki surfaces

What are the ways to integrate cooker hoods into the worktop?

There are two ways to install a hood on a worktop - by building it flush with the worktop or by installing it as a surface-mounted unit.

What are the connection options for cooker hoods?

Range hoods have two air purification options:

When connected to ventilation,

Using carbon filters in recirculation mode.

A hood with good technical characteristics is important, but it is even more important to properly connect it to ventilation . There are special ventilation channels for this, offered by the German company NABER . With their help, the pressure in the air ducts is reduced, and the air flow rate is not lost. Of course, one should not forget about the air supply, as this will ensure a better extraction result.

The use of recirculation is becoming increasingly popular, as it includes a number of advantages. One of them is energy efficiency. The warm air generated during cooking remains in the room, and there is no need for an air supply taken from the outside. In summer, this is not noticeable, but in winter, when it is -20 degrees outside, the cold air entering the room cools down. Another advantage is the ease of installation - we can place the stove in the place we need. Carbon filters are adjustable to your cooking frequency. They can last from one to three years. Filter systems can even be equipped with Hepa filters, which ensure maximum performance in air purification.
