STONE FINISHING

STONE FIREPLACE FINISHING

STONE WINDOWS

Window sills can be 1.2, 2, or 3 cm thick. There have been cases when, in the architect's or designer's vision, window sills are even thicker - up to 10 cm. In such cases, they are made using 45-degree technology, the seam is located at the fracture point and is practically invisible. Such thick window sills are more often chosen by adherents of ascetic and minimalist styles who like clean and straight lines.

Outdoor windowsills

Often, customers also choose stone exterior window sills, matched to the tone of the stone plinth or staircase stone. Exterior window sills are usually made with a slight slope for rainwater drainage, but it is also possible to create special notches.

Indoor window sills

Low window sills - often used for seating in public spaces, are often deeper than standard window sills.

There is always enough sun on the windowsills, so we love to place various houseplants there, which, in turn, are often overwatered, in which case the wood or MDF will definitely swell and deform after a while. In contrast, water left on a stone window sill simply dries out without leaving a trace and without changing the shape or appearance of the window sill.

In our latitudes, there is a radiator under the window sill. To visually cover it, the window sill is made deeper, over the radiator. It is possible to mill various types of holes in the stone window sill for hot air circulation. They can be left uncovered, or metal grilles can be embedded.

If the windowsill is at a sufficient distance above the radiator, then you can probably do without cutouts.

STAIR STONE FINISHING

The advantage of granite for steps and areas, unlike tiles, is the absence of seams, additional weight and excellent appearance in the long term. Often, guests of our stone processing factory are owners of tiled steps in the spring, when the tiles of the external steps and tiled areas have repeatedly separated due to frost and fluctuations in our specific climate. Therefore, after several re-tilings, the customer still ends up with granite steps and granite areas.

LED lights embedded in granite steps look good for additional comfort in the dark. Doormats of various sizes and functions are almost always embedded in the surface of granite stairs.

It is not uncommon for both internal and external granite stairs to have various anti-slip strips incorporated. We offer both embedded strips of various metals, multiple millings, and bush-hardened strips.

It is important to immediately properly concrete the foundations of the stairs so that they do not "walk" over time and everything placed on them does not fall off. A much more expensive "pleasure" is the dismantling and rebuilding of the whole thing.

VIA does not dismantle or restore old staircase finishes. It is also not possible to make a complete and accurate measurement until these works are completed.

STAIR STONE FINISHING

As a continuation of the external granite steps and granite areas, the plinth of the house is made of the same granite or a thoughtfully matched granite of a different color. The plinth part may be a few centimeters high or several meters high. The main thing is that it is installed deeper than the paving. We often see a technologically incorrectly manufactured and installed stone plinth or an incorrectly prepared surface before laying the stone plinth. Often, an empty joint or hole forms between the stone plinth part and the paving or other ground covering due to slipping or “walking” of the house foundation. The overall appearance is spoiled by lime runoff in the joints.

Stone plinths

Often, an empty joint or hole forms between the stone plinth part and the paving stone or other ground covering due to slipping or “walking” of the house foundation. The overall appearance is spoiled by lime runoff in the joints. The plinth part can be made of polished, matte, bushhammered and burnt granite. It is just a matter of taste. In terms of practicality and cost, all three are equivalent. Dust and other dirt from these stones can be easily rinsed off with a garden hose. The stone plinth is especially often chosen by owners of large dogs, so that the animals' claws, tails and teeth do not spoil the overall appearance of the house facade. For bush-hammered or burned surfaces, we recommend applying an additional protective layer of a special liquid for stone. This will make the stone tone more intense and "repel" dirt.

BASEINA AKMENS APMALES

For pool edges, as well as other places where high humidity is expected – bathhouses, saunas, etc. – it is important to choose a non-slip material. This could be a burnt or brushed granite, as well as one of DEKTON's matte materials. For additional protection against slipping, DEKTON has a GRIP + anti-slip treatment available for some shades.

FLOOR STONE FINISHING / AREAS

It is also possible to use various heating technologies for stone floors, external granite stairs and granite areas so that the entrance area does not freeze or slip in winter. Other stone surfaces located indoors do not require additional heating, as the stone takes on the room temperature, adapting to it.

It is also possible to embed a doormat into the stone.

VIA does not perform concreting/leveling work or dismantling of old floor finishes. We go to the mayor's office when these works are already completed.

WALL STONE FINISHING

By finishing walls with stone slabs both indoors and outdoors, you can avoid many tile joints.

We are a Latvian company that has been operating successfully since 1991. Our main activity is the construction of roads, streets, squares and the production of asphalt concrete, as well as the extraction of dolomite crushed stone and sand from quarries owned by the company.
